Racism in Australia

I believe it would be hard to name a country without racism examples. There are always different types of people in every county and you may be able to face this type of behaviour in Australia. Racism in Australia is not a strange topic for us to write and we can think of so many examples given by some of my acquaintances who have been through in these types of situations while living in Australia.

Racism in Australia is common. However it actually depends on the areas you are living around. This articles explains how to sense an activity of racism in Australia and how to react at that time. It also mentions about seeking help in case you are having any other issues related to your life or studies while studying in Australia.

Now, as it is cleared that there is racism in Australia. However, that there are people who are so nice and welcoming without caring about which country or race are you from. In our opinion, around 2-10 percent of people living in Australia can be considered in that category who could make you feel that you are an outsider. So, it is clearly your fate if you get in any kind of situation of having an experience of racism in Australia. Now, let’s talk about how should someone react during these types of situations.

How People Behave and How to sense racism

There are several examples that can be a perfect example of racism in Australia and one of this happened to a friend in the Sydney city. He was working with one of the casual hiring companies who sends employees to their contractors on demand on casual basis. As he explained that it was a labour job and after quite a few hours of work, they were on a break for their lunch. He did not bring anything from home for lunch and decided to eat from a nearby Subway restaurant. As he entered in the restaurant, there was already a queue and he was waiting behind a man. The man was about 35 or more. When he was asked by the staff about what he would like to have, he just moved further to give his order. Even though he was away from the man walking before him, the man asked him to back off. At very first he didn't realise if he had done something wrong but later he realised that may be that person had some problem with him or his personality or with work clothes, he was wearing.

So, the answer to this question wold be that racism could be in the form of anything. There might be someone at your workplace or at the bus stop and anywhere else who could show an inappropriate behaviour without any reason. You can always sense this if you find the other person is looking or behaving strangely or in an unusual way.

What to do if you face racism in Australia

A very first piece of advice would be not to react on that person's activity or behaviour. There are chances that if you react on his activity, he or she may go louder or intense. If keeping a calm doesn't work and you think that the situation is going out of control, you always have an option to go with emergency call at 000. You will be provided with proper help and guidance to deal with it. Also, at any time if you feel like you have been getting affected mentally due to any circumstances (its may be due to studies or home sickness or any other reason), there are colleges and school who provide counselling regarding to these problems for free.

To summarise, even though there are situations of racism, most of the Austrians as well as others from different countries are very nice to everyone. Every day on the job, we meet with people who are very nice to everyone. More than that even while walking in the streets or in the supermarkets we have met so many people who greet you with a smiling face if you glance at them by any chance. We are also learning these beautiful gestures and this is how anyone can adapt good things from a culture. Australia is a beautiful country and we hope this article would give you an idea of “Racism in Australia”.
